Box spring and matresses

There are more and more matresses on the market these days that are made of something other than springs, and these matresses never recommend using a box spring with them. So what's with the traditional box spring and matress? Are they eventually going to be completely replaced with latex and foam matresses?

And why do these specialty matresses not recommend using a box spring? They always claim that you want to have a more solid foundation. So why are box springs so good for inner spring matresses? Maybe they're not. Or maybe these new matress manufacturers are just yanking our chains.

In fact, if a solid foundation is best, then I would think just putting your matress on the floor would be fine, but no one suggests that.
